Why Oat Should Always Be In Your Shopping List

Oat is a type of cereal grain known for its seed. It carries a lot of health benefits. For a long time, it has been one of the most famous breakfast choices that comes packed with nutrients. Consumption of oat will help to avert various health conditions like heart disease, obesity and diabetes. Apart from being a healthy breakfast option especially for your heart, oat also can be used to enhance the health of your skin, hair and become part of your regular beauty regime.


Here are some oat-based health and beauty care treatments that can be easily done at home.

Facial cleanser
You will be surprised on how a simple ingredient like oat can be a gentle cleanser that will help you achieve a soft and clean skin. Try making this easy facial cleansing powder.

Chamomile and Oat Facial Cleansing Powder

  • 1/4 cup dry rolled oat
  • 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of chamomile essential oil 
  • 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay

Grind oat into a fine powder. Add chamomile essential oil into the oat powder followed by bentonite clay. Stir the three items together and store in a jar.

To use, wet your face with warm water. Take 1/2 teaspoon of the powder and add a few drops of warm water until it becomes a paste. Massage it to your face (avoiding the eyes area) for a few minutes before rinsing. Then, you can continue with your favourite toner and moisturiser


Face mask and scrub


You can try one of these two oat face masks. The ingredients that you need are:

Recipe No. 1

  • 3 tablespoon of ground oat
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • Warm water


Recipe No. 2

  • 2 tablespoon of ground oat
  • 1 tablespoon of almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Mix the ingredients together and apply it to the face. Leave it for a while to dry before rinsing.

  • A few slices of cucumber (mashed)
  • 2 tablespoon of ground oats
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

  • 3 tablespoon ground oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon of cornmeal
  • 1 teabag of green tea
  • 2 tablespoon of honey/almond oil

Combine all the ingredients well. The mixture will be a bit crumbly and at the same time clumpy. If it is too dry, kindly add more almond oil or honey. Put the mixture in a jar. 

To use, take some of the mixture and put some water to form a paste. Scrub gently onto face and rinse.


Healthy Scalp


The property in oat helps to take care of the dry scalp. It calms irritation and itchiness, keep your scalp healthy and moisturised. 

  • 2 tablespoon of ground oat
  • 1 – 2 tablespoon of almond oil

Combine these two ingredients, forming a paste consistency. Apply to scalp and massage the scalp for a few minutes. Rinse.


Body Scrub


You should never forget to exfoliate your entire body in order to remove dead skin cells. Oat will moisturize and leave your skin silky smooth. Try this Oat and Honey Body Scrub.

  • 1/2 cup oat
  • 1 cup brown sugar 
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

Grind oat until it become course powder. Put in a mixing bowl. Add brown sugar, honey, olive oil and mix all the ingredients together. Add a little bit more of olive oil if the mixture is quite dry. Store in a jar or a container.  Use once a week for a healthy glowing skin.

Bath Soak


Had a long hectic tiring day? Well, it’s time for a bath soak. Put some oat and flower petals (of your own choice) into a small organza bag or pouch. You can also use muslin cloth to put the oat and flower petals. Submerge the bag into a hot bath. The oat will turn the water milky, releasing the skin soothing benefits and you’ll also enjoy the scent of the petals.
