We’ve all heard of Esprit. Their presence in Asia alone is undeniable, as the brand dates its origins all the way back to 1968.
Esprit has always been known for its versatile range of casual wear and simplistic designs. But this time, the brand aims to encapsulate the spirit of fun and carefree living with its capsule collection of retro casual wear launched this summer. Inspired by Esprit’s original casual design language and its heyday back in the 1980s, the iconic brand moves towards bright and vibrant color schemes in this collection.
The Retro Capsule Collection takes on summer with the relaxed California ease, the colorful Esprit brand logo and relaxed silhouette.

- How has the brand evolved ever since its conception?
2. What/who are your sources of inspiration?
We have also been inspired by talented creatives we have worked with through the years - art director John Casado, photographer Olivero Toscani, architects Ottore Sottsass (responsible for the playful-crazy elements of our stores in the 80s) to Antonio Citterio and Aldo Cibis.
3. How does your brand stand out with the Retro collection?
The capsule pays tribute to the roots of the brand from 1968, reflecting its founders’ belief to make clothes for their friends in tune with their eco-friendly and socially responsible way of living.
4. What can we look forward to in the latest collection?
The collection is comprised of 23 apparel styles, including 14 for women and 9 for men. Inspired by Esprit’s original casual design language and its heyday in the 80s, the collection is colorful, fun and produced sustainably with organic material (mainly organic cotton and viscose) partnering with initiatives such as Better Cotton Initiative or Canopy.
It takes on summer with the relaxed California ease, which is at the core of Esprit: the iconic logo shines playfully, the silhouettes are relaxed, the characteristic multi-colored stripes and bold all-over logo prints return on a series of t-shirts, short sleeved sweatshirts, and denim jeans, jackets and high waisted shorts.
Summer staples like bright red, orange, mint green, yellow, and crisp white are accompanied by a fresh navy blue.
5. What is one thing that people do not know about your brand?
Did you know that we were born in California, sold first from the back of a VW van? Our founders, Susie and Doug, were inspired to a line of apparel that they and their best friends would want to wear, together who made up a community of extremely socially conscious and passionate people.
