Green living is not a new concept to us. It is good for the environment. At the same time beneficial to us and our future generations. However, to adopt this lifestyle is quite challenging and burdensome because most of us don’t know where and how to start. Of course, it is not that easy to create a balance in conserving and preserving the Earth (and its natural resources) while living your daily life. Well, here are some simple steps as guidance so you could start initiating a healthy, eco-friendly and more sustainable living.
Use less plastic
Embark your green living goals with less plastic. Plastics are hard to decompose. It takes a long time for a plastic bag to biodegrade. Thus, we do not want piles and piles of used plastics contaminating the Earth. When you’re out shopping, bring your own shopping bags or reuse your paper bags. Buy yourself a reusable water bottle or cup. This way, you don’t have to buy bottled water outside and minimize the usage of disposable cups when you order your coffee to go.
Cut down on papers
Yes, cut down on papers. Read online. Buy e-books or e-magazines instead of the tangible ones. Opt out of junk or unwanted mails. Change to paper-free billing for all your monthly bills. By doing all these, you will not be receiving a lot of papers which eventually will be thrown away. Always make it a habit to write or print on papers both sides. Then, do not simply throw used papers, old books, old newspapers and magazines. Send them to the nearest recycling center.
Watch your lights and water. Turn on lights only when you need them. Unplug electronics when their not in use. Avoid leaving them on if you are not even there. When you have the opportunity, slowly switch to energy saving light bulbs and appliances. Same goes with water. Don’t let it go running just because you think there’s plenty of fresh water around. For instance, don’t brush your teeth with your tap running or taking shower longer than necessary. You’ll be amazed (and proud of yourself) to see how much you could save, especially on the bills!
Apart from the three steps mentioned above, start to recycle and reuse. One thing to remember, don’t stress yourself by over imposing this concept into your life.
