MLBB is Here to Stay

You have probably heard or even came across the term MLBB in beauty vlogs and blogs alike, but you may not know what that is. In case you don't, MLBB is a Korean trend that has been going on since 2016. It is an acronym for the words "My Lips But Better", referring to applying the lipstick colour that is the same shade as your own lips but with added depth and intensity to your pout. It often results in a natural, almost nude look and can be used for the no-makeup makeup style without looking washed out, or simply to complement your dramatic eye makeup.

So how do you go about choosing your MLBB shade to match the lips your mama gave you? Here are five helpful tips to achieve it.

1. Glitter is a no-no

Obviously when it comes to finding a lipstick that looks natural, you do not want to get something that has extra shine or shimmer to it. Matte lipsticks and lip tints are usually preferred, but if you want your lips to look hydrated, a little gloss application would suffice.

2. Match it to your inner lip

The easiest way to find your shade is to match the lipstick with your inner lip colour. Some beauty bloggers have also suggested matching it to your fingertips or even your nips (LOL) - but the inner lip colour is what will flatter your pout the most.

3. Match it according to your undertone

Knowing your undertone also helps in your search for a flattering lip colour. How to check? If the veins on your wrist appears blue/purple, then you are cool-toned. Pink and mauve shades will look great on you. If the veins on your wrist appears green, then you are warm-toned. Orange and brown shades will suit you. If you cannot tell whether your veins are blue or green, then do not worry - consider yourself neutral-toned and extremely lucky as you are able to pull off any shade.

4. Purchase it directly from the store

You may feel tempted to buy your very first MLBB shade online, but it is so much better going to the store and compare the shade for yourself than guessing your correct shade online. This is because you might end up with the wrong shades that are too dark or too light for you. You can never depend too much on edited photos from the website. But if you are feeling lucky, then no one is going to stop you either.

5. Remember to care for your lips

This is the most important step if you want to flawlessly pull off your MLBB shade. Do not forget to wear a lipbalm to avoid chapped lips and gently exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub or soft toothbrush. After all, the whole point of going MLBB is to enhance your lip's own natural beauty.
