10 Movie Soundtracks That Have Stood The Test Of Time

Great movies usually come with great soundtracks and any movie goer can attest to that. With the fever of the recent movie ‘A Star Is Born’ still in the air, especially its amazing soundtrack, we’d like to bring you back to 10 movie soundtracks that have stood the test of time and are still very much the crowd’s favourite.

1)      Beauty and The Beast (1991)

Disney movies never fail to capture our hearts and most of its soundtracks are killer songs. This one is from the animated movie ‘Beauty and The Beast’ which makes us fall in love with it every time and is a classic song that will never age.

2)   I Will Always Love You (1992)

In her acting debut role Whitney belted out a number of amazing songs for the movie ‘The Bodyguard’ that also starred Kevin Costner and this song in particular still remains one of the most popular love songs out there. Try listening to other tracks on the soundtrack album and you’ll be swept off your feet.

3)      Everything I do (I do it for you) (1991)

There must have been something about the 90s because people just made such beautiful music that we still listen to this day, and this song is no exception. Featured in the movie ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’, starring Kevin Costner again and many more prominent actors this song by Bryan Adams topped the charts for months and reached such worldwide popularity.

4)      It Must Have Been Love (1992)

A classic must-listen-to break up song from the romantic movie ‘Pretty Woman’ starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, it is certainly evergreen and still being played on the air waves. Not only did the movie entice women with the fashion styles, the rest of the soundtrack is equally good and worth listening to.

5)      My Heart Will Go On (1997)

This haunting tune is still going on strong after two decades and we believe will go on and on to be the most memorable love song of all time. Titanic may have sunk, but the song lives on.

6)      Over The Rainbow  (1939)

This classic song first came to life in the movie ‘The Wizard of Oz’ giving birth to many cover versions, one of it by IZ Kamakawiwo’Ole whose take on it has been featured in many movies among them, 50 First Dates (2004) starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. Instead of Judy Garland’s original we’re including IZ’s version here which we admit, we love more. It’s such a sweet tune it leaves you feeling all warm and mushy inside.

7) Baby I Love Your Way (1994)

This song appeared in the soundtrack for the movie ‘Reality Bites’ starring a very young Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke and Ben Stiller. You can still hear it being played on the radio and one can never get tired of it. This reggae version by the band Big Mountain became more popular than the original and we are not surprised why.

8) Pulangkan (2004)

Malaysians can never forget the iconic horror film about a woman scorned who goes on to haunt the people who wronged her. ‘Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam’ became a box office success and the song by Misha Omar, Pulangkan, can still tug at your heart strings and is one that we don’t mind listening to again and again.

9) My Heart (2006)

This Indonesian movie soundtrack was made popular by Irwansyah and Acha Septriasa who not only sang the song together but also acted in the movie ‘Heart’. It won Best Song at the MTV Indonesia Movie Awards in 2006 and is still a much loved song till today.

10) Jeritan Batinku (1962)

We can’t end this list without including a song from our very own legendary the late Tan Sri P Ramlee. He wrote and sang all the soundtracks in the movies he directed himself and mind you, there are many great ones out there. The list is endless but we’ve picked the unforgettable movie ‘Ibu Mertuaku’ about the tragic love affair between Kassim Selamat and Sabariah. Jeritan Batinku is a heart breaking song and though many have tried making their own versions, nothing beats this classic original which may bring tears to your eyes.
