Korean wave or known as Hallyu began in Southeast Asia in early 1990 and continued recently to America, Europe and the Middle East. Gangnam Style by Psy music video reached 3.2 Billion becoming the sixth most viewed music video on Youtube as of November 2018. This shows that Korean Wave or Kpop Industry has spread around the world. Compared to Japan and China, South Korea is a small country, how did the Korean wave storm the global market?

The majority of Kpop fans are from the younger generations. Rather than listening to the song, they get to watch the videos related to their idols and get to promote their Kpop idols online. Kpop fans also get to express themselves freely. They make a song cover, dance cover and some even make a flash mob of Kpop songs. Kpop fans outside South Korea interacts with each other in online fan clubs and they will also organize a gathering event and do fun activities together. This makes people around them be aware of Kpop bands and learns about the industry.
3. Content that they offer
Korean wave is not only about the Kpop music culture as it also includes Korean dramas, movies, fashion and more. Korean dramas attracted a lot of viewers because of their unique story line and romantic love stories that every women dreamnt of.
Despite of the language barrier, Kpop songs are addictive with the catchy lyrics. Not only that, people are often captivated with their choreography as each of their songs have different dance moves. Their fashion style is also on top of the game where they even look good dancing in shorts.
4. Entertainment companies strategy
Individuals alone cannot survive on their own in the Korea entertainment industry as they need to be apart of an entertainment company in order to be successful as an idol, actor, comedian or model. Before they can make their debut, the companies will provide training to prepare them. Some of them even train for more than 5 years to become a top-class entertainer. The trainee also will be taught foreign language and build their character. As soon as the trainee makes a debut, the company will put them on a tight schedule so they can start making profits to the company.
