What does Captain Kirk and Spock, Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani, Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee, all have in common? These pairs of unlikely personalities share a bond that is strong and only comprehensible to each other. That strong bond is called bromance.
The term “bromance” was made popular sometime around 2005, but men have always had bromances in their lives – they are just too embarrassed to call it that. That shouldn’t be though as a healthy bromance is essential in every man’s life. Just two (or more) men who are close but not in any romantic way, even if the word “romance” is attached to it. It is more akin to having a brother whom you can just talk about anything and everything that is going on in your world.
You don’t have to be embarrassed about having a bromantic relationship. Here we list down some reasons why bromances are important to a man.
1. Promotes loyalty
When you have a bromance relationship with someone, loyalty is key. Just like how Vito Corleone in “The Godfather” prioritizes loyalty over everything else, the same can be said in a bromance relationship. It tests you to stay loyal to the pact you have built with your bro which provides no room for backstabbing. Because once you betray the trust and bond you have with them, you are out.
2. Provides an emotional outlet
Most men tend to bottle up their feelings and hold it in for a long time which can cause anxiety and depression or worse, uncontrollable rage when they suddenly explode from taking too much in. A bromance can help with that problem by providing a safe space for you to let go of your bottled up feelings without worrying about gossip. This is due to the loyalty and trust that bros have which honestly, most women lack.
3. Boosts your confidence level
It is no doubt that being with a bro helps to increase your self-esteem. That is because they know exactly what an ordinary guy needs to one-up their game. Unlike women who sometimes beat around the bush, bros will usually just lay it to you straight if what you are doing is right or wrong. They will tell you how to dress like a gentleman, walk like a model, and converse-properly which ultimately boost your confidence and manliness exponentially.
4. Shapes you to be better
A healthy bromance ultimately does one thing: it helps shape you into becoming a better person. Your brothers want what is best for you and will help you in your quest to self-discovery. They will assist, encourage, and guide you in that war you are having with yourself. You will never feel alone when you have your bros by your side who want to see you succeed in life, which to them, signifies as a win for your pact.
