Digital print blooms are back in fashion.
Trend-forecasting agency WGSN just revealed the major trends for spring/summer 2018, and if you’re eager to know what you’ll be wearing this season, this is one you might want to get on board with: Psychotropics.
What’s psychotropics, you ask? Well, think psychedelic brights combined with tropical prints. Psychotropics is all about vibrant, vivid colors and exotic prints inspired by nature — jungles, sunsets, undergrowth, and other tropical motifs.
For psychotropics, lush botanical theme are heightened, with motifs infused with a hallucinogenic quality. Colours are deep and saturated, as though you’ve turned up the contrast in Photo Editor, and the juxtaposition of nature and man-made effects creates a fresh tension.
While most digital print clothing and accessories feature rainbow brights, not all psychotropics designs have to be in neon. You can still play up the flower power with a groovy 70s-inspired colour palette such as aqua, palm, and tangerine, as seen at Tory Burch and Thom Browne’s shows at fashion week.
Saturated colours dominated the Spring/Summer 2018 runways. The psychotropics trend adds a hyper-real quality to these colours. They are vibrant and exciting, and they bring a dose of holiday glamour and energy into neutral palettes and minimalist outfits.
Yet, the bohemian-luxe flower child look will likely never go out of style. Bold florals and embroidery remain staples for spring/summer.
