2NE1's Sandara Park was recently spotted with one.
No secrets on what’s in her bag now that clear bags are all the rage.
Who would have thought that the humble plastic bag would climb the ranks of high fashion and distill down to the streets again, with celebrities, It-girls, and the style-sensitive ones all picking up on the trend of the moment.
Nope, they’re not exactly the flimsy plastic bags that you find at your local supermarket (though, arguably, these could reduce our carbon footprint if we did our grocery shopping with them).
Sturdy and ready to weather a storm, these transparent accessories are just in time for the upcoming rainy season.
As Seen on the Streets:
South Korean singer Sandara Park, member of popular K-pop group 2NE1, recently added a touch of plastic luxe chic to her casual streetwear look with a transparent shopper bag from French designer brand Celine’s Spring 2018 collection.
Whatever your thoughts are about the price tag that comes along with Dara’s designer plastic shopper bag, see-through totes and transparent PVC bags have, for now, clearly secured their spot as a coveted style item this season.
Designer Brands going Transparent:
It’s not the first time designers are going clear — we already saw transparent purses and bags at the Spring 2016 shows of Loewe and Christopher Kane.
The resurgence of the see-through bag trend started at the Spring Summer 2018 shows of luxury brands like Chanel, and we saw it trickle over into Fall Winter 2018 where more renditions of transparent tote bags and PVC vinyl purses peppered the runways at fashion week.
Besides Chanel, other high fashion brands that have been committing to aforementioned accessory transparency include MSGM, Prada, Anna Sui, MM6 Maison Margiela, and Dsquared2.
Our more practical (read: privacy & price) choices:
Not too sure about showcasing to the world your possessions and private items?
The bag-in-transparent-bag is a more circumspect choice that balances both style sensibility and sensibleness. Not to mention how it veils the actual chaos that might be borderline offensive on a social front if you, by nature, aren’t the most bothered about housekeeping.
