Upcoming TV Shows that Could Replace Your "Game of Thrones" Draught

Say what you want about the final season of “Game of Thrones” but one thing is for sure, there will no longer be a TV series that can get people as invested as the Emmy award-winning programme. However, we are just halfway through 2019 and the future of TV looks pretty good.

Just recently, the Emmy award-winning “Barry” starring Bill Hader who also won an award for his comedic performance wrapped up to great reviews. Same goes to “Chernobyl”, a storied look into the true events of the 1986 tragedy, which is expected to win various awards at the Emmys this September.

Besides that, there are plenty other series coming your way starting this June. Here are some of the ones that we are excited for.

1.    Black Mirror

Can you believe it has been two years since the last “Black Mirror” season? Ever since it made its way to Netflix in 2016, people are on board the series which mainly tackles about how technology and human’s basic instincts collide in a dark and twisted manner. Following last year’s interactive “Bandersnatch”, the series is looking to become a big hit among sci-fi fans.

2.    The Mandalorian

This one is for the avid “Star Wars” fans. Jon Favreau, who has made a name for himself for directing the first two “Iron Man” movies, is trying his luck in TV this time with “The Mandalorian”. “The Mandalorian” is set in the “Star Wars” universe which follows a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy while escaping from the menacing authority of the New Republic.

3.    Stranger Things

The highly acclaimed “Stranger Things” is coming back for a third season this July and we cannot wait to see our favourite pubescent gang on their bikes fending themselves against monsters from the Upside Down. While last season took place during Halloween, this year is all about summer vacation. So, expect 80’s summer style swimsuits, haircuts, music, and hot bods.

4.    Swamp Thing

With the whole comic book movie craze that has peaked post “Avengers: Endgame”, let’s not forget that TV is also bringing their fair share of comic book series based on superhero characters. The latest would be DC’s “Swamp Thing”, a human/plant elemental creature who fights for the protection of his swamp home and the environment in general from various threats be it supernatural or otherwise.

5.    Too Old to Die Young

While the aforementioned titles are fantastical in its own way, “Too Old to Die Young” takes a more grounded and realistic approach to tell a story of a grieving police officer who slowly descends into the criminal underworld. You can expect this to be abstract and a thinking piece as art-house director Nicolas Winding Refn is known for since he is heavily involved in “Too Old to Die Young”.

6.    Watchmen

Trailer taken from: HBO’s Youtube.

Probably the most anticipated TV series this year has to be “Watchmen”, a continuation of the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name by the legend himself, Alan Moore. “Watchmen” takes place in contemporary America where costume heroes are considered outlaws. Packed with an original new story, it would be interesting to see how this show plays out as the comic book was known to be an impossible source to adapt.

With a promising first half start, we can’t wait to see what the rest of 2019 will bring us through the small screens.
