It is not too late to wish you all Happy Eid Mubarak! This Syawal month, we got the chance to talk to an amazing young lady who is currently pursuing her Degree in PR & Management at Taylor’s University. The 20-year-old who has over 35k followers on her Instagram page @geekyhawt got our attention with her incredible yet effortless fashion looks. Get to know her more and how she spent her Raya celebration in our interview with her down below.

1.    Tell us a little bit about yourself.

gh6.jpg

My name’s Syaza Atheerah, I’m 20 this year and I’m currently doing my degree in PR and Event Management at Taylor’s University. I was born in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah but was raised in Kuala Lumpur for a few years before my family and I moved to Subang Jaya, Selangor.

2.    In three words, describe to us your personality.

gh8.jpg

Comedic, loud and chill.

3.    How do you describe your sense of style?

Inconsistent. But not in a bad way. My style ranges from glam to street to girly to casual. I wouldn’t say I dress according to my mood because even on days I don’t feel like there is a need to dress up, I will anyway. I dress according to the occasion. If it’s a long day in campus, there’s no way I’m going to wear stilettos. What if the elevators are full and I have to climb 7 flights of stairs? Gotta be smart you know! But one thing’s for sure… you’ll never catch me in flip flops!

4.    What is one item in your closet do you wear the most?

It used to be ripped jeans but now… I think it’s ice hockey jerseys. I have a collection of jerseys. They’re so versatile. You can wear it and look chill, you know? Pair it with some sneakers or look glam like Hailey Bieber and pair it with some boots. You can never go wrong. Unless you pair them with flip flops.

5.    Sneakers? Flats? High heels?

ghc.jpg

I’m going to cheat and say sneakers AND high heels. I’ve never really been a fan of flats.

6.    Hari Raya is a celebration all Muslims are waiting for each year. Share with us what outfit you were donning for the first day of Raya this year?

gh1.jpg

I wore this beautiful emerald green kebaya for my first day of Hari Raya! Let me let you in on a story. Actually, while my family and I were doing some Raya shopping, I had that ‘couldn’t-be-bothered’ feeling. Usually I would search high and low to look my absolute best… like, going prom shopping. I’d want to go to all the best shops and then keep a mental note of which ones I was keen in and then go back to one of the shops and buy the one I really wanted. But this time, I was just feeling demotivated, so I saw that emerald green kebaya and thought, “ah screw it. This looks pretty. Let’s just take this one,” and it turned out to be really cute. So, I got pretty lucky.

7.    We would love to know how your typical Raya celebration is with the family?

Usually it was going back to either one of my parents’ hometowns and then go to, like… 10 open houses throughout the day. But this year my relatives from Brunei and Sabah flew here so there really wasn’t any need to go there. It was nice, though. Hari Raya is all about togetherness and I felt closer to my family than before.

8.    You have flawless natural skin. Share with us your skin care regime and how did you get your skin prepped for Raya?

gh5.jpg

I wouldn’t say I have flawless natural skin, but I do take very good care of it. I cleanse my face twice a day followed by moisturiser and then sunblock! That’s all. My skin’s quite sensitive so I always make sure I don’t do or eat anything that could potentially make me break out into hives or whatnot.

9.    You are always on point with your makeup, what are your beauty must-haves to always look gorgeous?

gh2.jpg

Oh wow… my entire makeup routine, I’d say. Eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow palette, mascara, foundation… they’re ALL my must-haves. I have to look my best I don’t care what ANYBODY says.

10.    What is your go-to lipstick shade?

Bold colours. Always. If I had to pick just one… Fenty Beauty in ‘Stunna.’ One of the best shades of red out there.

11.    What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever been given?

You don’t necessarily need a primer before you start wearing your makeup. Sure, it’s good to have that glow or maybe you want your makeup to be more matte but honestly, it’s not a need.

12.    What is one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?

gh7.jpg

That I’m Sabahan. I don’t know why but whenever I say it, everybody has this surprised look on their face as if it’s something groundbreaking. Here’s another thing to make you guys even more surprised! I have 6 mixes which are Kadazan-Dusun, Iban, Suluk/Tausūg, Pakistan, Jawa/Javanese and Bugis! So ethnic hahaha.

13.    What is your weirdest pet peeve?

When people don’t say “excuse me.” Is this considered weird? I’m sorry but I really can’t stand it! The amount of times where if I’m blocking someone’s way and obviously I don’t realise it but they either push me or do that “tsk” sound. Like… geez. I’m NOT sorry. I don’t have eyes at the back of my head. Sometimes people like me can be so unaware. Please just say “excuse me” or something. It’s not that hard.

14.    Everyone is raving about the new Aladdin movie. Tell us which Disney princess do you identify the most?

I don’t think I identify with any Disney princess. Maybe Mulan. She has always been my favourite. If I look past the fact that she saved all of China (I can’t relate…), I can relate to when she felt like she was never good enough and felt like she wasn’t herself by being forced to do things women are expected to do… while breaking into a song number. Come on everybody with me, WHO IS THAT GIRL I SEE…

15.    If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation. I’ve been asked this enough amount of times to finally decide on a solid answer. Why teleportation, you may ask? Just imagine being able to travel anywhere without paying a single cent. Sign me up!

16.    If you are stranded on an island and can only bring three things with you for survival, what would it be?

I’m going to be smart about this. My phone (just in case there’s an app that could call for SOS, right?), a knife and a really big blanket. It’s going to get cold, you guys. Homegirl can’t handle the cold!!!

17.    Name us three places in the world that you would love to visit if you had the opportunity.

Greece, The Netherlands (Amsterdam, to be specific) and New York.

18.    Who is your role model in life that is inspiring? And why?

Jameela Jamil! I love her so much. She’s so beautiful and she constantly speaks up about inequality, women’s rights and so much more topics that are deemed controversial and majority of celebrities stray away from. She’s not afraid to talk back to other celebrities and she’s really smart about it too. I think it’s really important for a celebrity especially to voice out about important issues. A lot of celebrities are so afraid of losing fans but she’s just like ‘who cares?! These topics should be talked about.’ Love her.

19.    If you had the chance to switch places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?

Zendaya. Every day I asked myself… “why am I not Zendaya.” Haha kidding but imagine being her… even for a day. She’s so beautiful, fun and an amazing person overall.

20.    Every woman should know how to…

gh10.jpg

Stand up for herself. Honestly this is something everyone, regardless of gender, should know how to do but a lot of women I know are afraid to say “no” or just let other people step all over them. It’s important to stand your ground and make yourself heard. You don’t always have to take care of other people’s feelings. Ask yourself; are they taking care of yours? Establish dominance. But don’t be rude or disrespectful about it. Make yourself heard.
