These days, TV is arguably generating good contents giving us the likes of “The Boys”, “Chernobyl”, “Euphoria”, and many more which are praised by critics and casual viewers alike. However, there is one genre that is just about as trashy and ridiculous, but somehow, we enjoy watching it even till this day. That genre is reality TV.
Reality TV usually revolves around celebrities or public figures we love to hate or hate to love. In a way, it is just interesting to see people react genuinely to unscripted situations making it more fun to watch. Of all the hundreds of reality TV shows available now, here are some that we could watch no matter how crude it gets.
1. “The Bachelor” / “The Bachelorette”
It all started with the premiere of “The Bachelor” in 2002, where viewers are immediately hooked to this new and fresh format of dating reality TV. “The Bachelor” revolves around a bachelor trying to find love in more than 20 female contestants which they will eventually get married. The show became so successful that it is now in its 23rd season and did a gender switch show called “The Bachelorette” among other spin-offs.
2. “Jersey Shore”
What was MTV’s highest-rated series ever has run its course for six seasons since 2009. Watching “Jersey Shore” is just watching eight Italian American housemates who somehow use a lot of hair gel and suntan lotion while most, if not all, wear skimpy clothes, living together with all their friendship and relationship problems jumbled up together.
3. “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”
Probably the most watched reality TV show of them all, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” is still going strong since it first aired in 2007. Khloe, Kim, and Kourtney Kardashian, who shot to popularity because of this, are the obvious subjects of this show who each have their own stories and problems to overcome. Plus, it is just fascinating to see the other family members who have all gone to do their own thing using this platform.
4. “The Osbournes”
But before “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”, the original dysfunctional family that introduced us to family mayhem has to be 2002’s “The Osbournes”. This reality show centres on Black Sabbath vocalist, Ozzy Osbourne, and his little family of four who live the same lifestyle as the rock legend. You can already imagine the mayhem that will eventually ensue around the house.
5. “The Real Housewives”
If there is one reality show that has branched out to an international level, it is obviously “The Real Housewives”. The series first started out in 2006 titled “The Real Housewives of Orange County” that took place in… well… Orange County, California. Its success resulted in countless spin-offs taking place all over the United States most notably New York, New Jersey, Beverly Hills, and Atlanta, just to name a few. Athens, Vancouver, and Melbourne are examples of its international counterparts.
