Being a student means putting in long hours to study or finish an assignment where the stress can be overwhelming especially if you’re the kind who enjoys spending those hours cooped up in your room. If you live in a hostel, your room shouldn’t just be a place to sleep but a source of comfort and motivation. So before the stress starts taking a toll on you, why not try out these ideas on decorating your hostel room in order to boost your study life. If your budget permits, you’ll soon be on your way to creating that perfect room to spend your time in.
1. Use Wallpaper
To add life to a dull wall why not cover it with wallpaper of your choice. Choose colours or motifs that inspire or soothe you. Staying in to study or just chill in your pyjamas will be much more fun when your room is inviting. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy, paint the walls with what you think might motivate you.
2. Put up inspirational posters
So your hostel has strict rules against altering any part of your room but fret not for there is another way. Fill up your walls with quotes or inspiring pictures to encourage you to stay positive and to get you moving in the right direction. As a student your mind can tend to wander and sometimes you just need inspiration so create a corner that will remind you of the important things in life.
3. Keep an indoor plant
Indoor plants are said to improve concentration, reduce stress levels and boost your mood. So adding a plant or two in your room not only leads to productivity but it will also make your room pretty and alive as you maneuver the challenges in your student life.
4. Make it cozy
If you have extra space for an extra chair why not add one in for you to sit on while you study or for just lazing around. Go for pieces that stand out and help lift the image of your plain hostel room to become your favourite place to return to. For better effect include a plush carpet or rug that will give a cozy atmosphere to your entire room.
5. Stay organized
Being swamped with deadlines is inevitable and is no excuse for you to ignore how your room looks like. Stay organized by keeping your room tidy and place a wall organizer so you can be up-to-date with what you need to do. Less clutter is what you should be aiming for in order to stay focused in your studies.
6. Keep Pretty Things Around
This can be just about anything that suits your interest from fresh flowers (or plastic ones) to cute mugs. Placing pieces of your favourite objects as decoration can add to the ambience you want and hopefully give you the incentive you need to study in a conducive environment.
7. Invest in Nice Bedding and Pillows
At the end of the day you still need to rest. A cozy and inviting bed would be great to return to after a hard day in class. Soft cotton bed sheets (preferably with high thread count) and plush pillows are the key ingredients. Just don’t spend too much time on the bed sleeping because remember, you need to study!
